Born and educated in Adelaide, floral artist Darryl Trott displayed an artistic ability from a young age. He was tutored by Australian floral artist Ruth Tuck in his thirties. Following a sell out exhibition at the Newton Art Gallery in 1977, he moved to the United States, and soon became one of America’s recognised top water colourists. He achieved international acclaim among collectors, of whom Lady Bird Johnson and Queen Beatrix of Holland are among some of the most notable. His expert use of watercolour has created an unique range of floral works which dramatically capture the colour and abundance of the natural world. Trott has painted from live blooms and gardens across five continents, including hibiscus in Tahiti, roses in England and magnolias in Louisiana, and his work continues to enjoy enduring appeal.
