Born in England in 1888, Ernest Abbott was a printmaker, painter and art teacher. After leaving school he worked as a signwriter, and migrated to Western Australia in 1910, later moving to South Australia. He taught art until he moved to Melbourne in about 1917 and opened a studio. Although he never exhibited, he made intaglio prints and etchings, and painted watercolours and pastels depicting Egyptian, Australian and English scenery, selling them locally and in Europe. Abbott died in Melbourne in 1973.
