Stipple engraving, hand coloured, 34 x 27cm (image), 60 x 42.5cm (frame). The paper toned. Plate 1 from Wheatley’s ‘Cries of London’, engraved by Luigi Schiavonetti (1765-1810). Captioned in elegant copperplate script at bottom ‘Two bunches a penny primroses, two bunches a penny’ and French translation ‘A un sol mes deux poignees de primrose, a un sol’. From the original painted by Francis Wheatley (1747-1801), R.A. Undated but appears to be late 18th century. Available for local pickup, otherwise courier to be arranged and paid for by bidder.
