Sidney Nolan (1917-1992), ‘Riverbend Series (Panel 1)’,

Limited edition print, 71 x 56cm (image), 103 x 82cm (frame). Signed ‘Nolan’ lower right, editioned bottom left ’21/99′. The frame somewhat aged, minor foxing on lower frame card.
Originally painted in 1964-65, this celebrated nine-part series features legendary Australian bushranger Ned Kelly, a favourite subject of the artist. Reflecting on his work, Nolan said “Painting is an extension of man’s means of communication – as such it’s pure, difficult and wonderful.”
