Copper penny by J.C. Thornthwaite, 34mm, 22.46g, obv. front inscription 2 lines, STEAM COFFEE MILLS in 2 lines, rev, with JCT left of date, double details (shadowing) suggest this example was struck more than once, lightly handled & toned brown with some underlying lustre, some obverse hairlines noted, extremely fine or slightly better, (A.427/R.540).
Side note: *Extremely rare with only around six examples known, likely struck on a press rather than the usual drop hammer given the superior quality of the issue.
*A Study of Australasian Trade Tokens, by Simon Gray.
